We currently have 5 members of staff qualified in First Aid at Work and 16 trained in Paediatric First Aid, working across the school.
Welcome to the Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) section of Paddock Junior Infant and Nursery School's website.
Our Special Needs Co-ordinator (Inclusion Manager) is Ms. Marie Harvey, who is responsible for the day to day running of the school's SEND department. She is happy to meet with any parent to discuss concerns they may have regarding their child's special educational, medical or disability needs. She is ably supported by school staff, including a well established SEN team with experience of autism, dislexia, visual impairment, emotional well-being, health and challlenging behaviour needs. We also work with gifted children, giving them opportunities to broaden their experience and to work at their own pace.
Most children with special needs are able to progress within their year group by receiving good teaching and additional intervention by the teacher, a support teacher or teaching assistants. However, there are occasions when this is not enough and our Inclusion Manager will become involved at the request of the class teacher. At this point parents will be fully involved in the action that might be taken to support their child. This may require involvement from external agencies such as Educational Psychologists, Health or Speech and Language Therapists.
If you have any concerns about your child please come and discuss them with your child's class teacher or Ms. Harvey. We have an open door policy and would encourage you to talk to us as soon as possible.
If you have any questions about SEND or your child's education, please feel free to speak to a member of staff.
